The Chain Gang, sorti en le 18 août 1930, est un dessin animé de Mickey Mouse produit par Walt Disney pour Columbia Pictures[1]. Ce film est connu pour voir apparaître un chien, encore anonyme, qui deviendra Pluto[1].

Synopsis

Mickey, après avoir été accusé d'un crime qu'il n'a pas commis est envoyé en prison. Il se retrouve à briser des cailloux dans la cour de la prison, boulet au pied au côté d'autres prisonniers dont Clarabelle Cow. Leur gardien est Pat Hibulaire, armé de plusieurs chiens. Mickey trouve un harmonica et entame une chanson. Les autres prisonniers se mettent aussi à chanter et à danser. Cette animation permet une tentative d'évasion. Mickey se retrouve poursuivi par la meute de chiens et saute du haut d'une falaise pour leur échapper. Mais il tombe directement dans un fourgon cellulaire.

Commentaires

C'est l'apparition graphique d'un chien qui deviendra quelques mois plus tard Pluto[1]. L'aspect graphique sera réutilisé à la fin de l'année 1930 sous le nom de Rover comme chien de Minnie Mouse dans The Picnic. Ce n'est qu'en 1931, avec The Moose Hunt que Pluto deviendra le chien de Mickey et sous le nom de Pluto.

Le film comprend l'air de The Prisoner's Song (1924) écrit par Guy Massey qui sera réutilisé dans une version aboyée par un chiot Rien qu'un chien (1932)[2].
