Tall tale
Un grand conte (tall tale) est une histoire avec des éléments incroyables, décrits comme étant vrais et factuels. Certaines histoires sont les exagérations d'événements réels, tels ces histoires de pêche fabuleuse. D'autres grands contes sont des contes complètement fictifs dans un cadre familier, comme le Vieil Ouest américain ou le début de l'Âge Industriel. On raconte souvent les grands contes de manière à faire croire que le narrateur a réellement pris part à l'évènement. Ils sont d'habitude pleins d'humour ou pleins d'esprit. La ligne entre le mythe et le grand conte est distinguée principalement par l'âge. Quand nombre de mythes exagèrent les exploits de leurs héros, les grands contes placent l'exagération au premier plan jusqu'à en faire le motif central de toute l'histoire.
