Svatopluk Ier
Représentation de Svatopluk et de ses trois fils Mojmír II, Svatopluk II et Predstav. Vers 1900-1901
Svatopluk de Nitra, prince de Grande-Moravie (870-894). Il détrône son oncle Rotislav à la faveur de troubles. Rotislav est livré aux Francs, jugé par l’empereur Louis le Germanique qui le fait énucléer. Il meurt en prison. Svatopluk agrandit le royaume de Grande-Moravie par l’annexion de la Bohême et de la Slovaquie occidentale (874). Sous son règne est créée par le pape Jean VIII la province ecclésiastique de Grande-Moravie dont Méthode devient le premier archévêque (880). Après sa mort, ses fils Mojmir II et Svatopluk II se querellent pour le trône.
