Stetson est une marque de chapeau et plus généralement de couvre-chef connu pour ces chapeaux de cow-boy. Dans le langage courant un chapeau de cow-boy peut être appelé un « stetson » alors même qu'il n'est pas de cette marque.

Le stetson historique est un chapeau souvent en feutre avec des bords très larges afin de protéger du soleil les yeux de celui qui le porte. La manière d'en relever les bords comme l'acteur James Dean dans le film Géant était jugée comme particulièrement provocante à l'époque.

Il a été inventé par l'américain John B. Stetson dans les années 1860. Il a d'abord été vendu en 1865 à Central City (Colorado) sous le nom de Boss of the Plains, plus tard il a été appelé Stetson par référence à son inventeur. Il a d'abord été utilisé par les cow-boys chez qui, il avait été popularisé par une tournée de Buffalo Bill.
