Mobil a été une importante compagnie pétrolière américaine qui a fusionné en 1999 avec Exxon Co pour former le n°1 mondial du secteur ExxonMobil. Aujourd'hui encore Mobil est une division importante de cette entreprise.

Historique

En 1911, le gouvernement américain scinde les actifs de la Standard Oil condamnée pour violation de la loi anti-trust Sherman Act de 1890. Il les répartit dans 33 entreprises. La Standard Oil Company of New York ou Socony est créé à cette occasion. En 1920, elle dépose la marque "Mobiloil"

En 1931, la fusion entre la Socony avec la Vacuum Oil donne la Socony-Vacuum Co

En 1955 la Socony-Vacuum est renommée Socony Mobil Oil Company, puis la Mobil Oil Corporation en 1955, et finalement Mobil Corporation en 1976

En 1998 Mobil et Exxon trouvent un accord, et fusionnent dans ExxonMobil

L'activité principal de Mobil est la distribution de carburants domestique et industriel. La marque Mobil couvre aussi une gamme de lubrifiants.

Mobil 1

Mobil 1 fut le premier lubrifiant moteur synthétique lancé par Mobil en 1974. Cette huile moteur 100% synthétique reste la plus vendue du monde

ExxonMobil au travers de cette marque est un partenaire et sponsor incontournable de la Formule 1

Mobil Delvac

est une marque spécialisée dans des lubrifiants pour véhicules commerciaux
