Robert Rex
Robert Richmond Rex ; né le 25 janvier 1909 et mort le 12 décembre 1992, fut le Premier ministre de Niue, de l'accès par ce pays à l'autonomie le 19 octobre 1974 jusqu'à sa mort en 1992, ayant été réélu à ce poste tous les trois ans[1]. Bien avant cette date, il représenta Niue à la première réunion de la Communauté du Pacifique Sud, en 1947[2]. Il fut également le premier Niuéen à être nommé chevalier, en 1984.
Son père, Leslie Lucas R. Rex, était un commerçant européen installé à Niue, et sa mère, Fisimonomono Tufaina, une villageoise niuéenne originaire d'Avatele, dans le sud de l'île.
Robert s'opposa à la politique des partis[3], mais reçut néanmoins le soutien du Parti du peuple niuéen suite à sa fondation en 1987.
Young Vivian lui succéda au poste de premier ministre à sa mort.
