Since I've Been Loving You est une chanson du groupe de rock britannique Led Zeppelin.

Historique

Since I've Been Loving You figure sur le troisième album du groupe, Led Zeppelin III (1970) ainsi que sur les albums live How the West Was Won (2003) et The Song Remains the Same (1976). Il s'agit d'un blues en do mineur dont la construction est basé sur le mode aeolien (la gamme mineure).

Selon de nombreuses critiques, cette chanson serait un des meilleurs blues jamais joué par des blancs.[réf. nécessaire]

Elle fut interprétée lors de la réunification de Jimmy Page et de Robert Plant sur l'album No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded (1994).

Sur l'enregistrement original de 1970, on entend nettement un grincement de la pédale de la grosse caisse, en particulier dans l'intro.

Paroles

La chanson raconte le désespoir amoureux d'un homme trompé par sa femme, thème récurrent dans le blues. L'image classique du « back door man » (l'homme de la porte de derrière), qui désigne l'amant qui s'enfuit par derrière quand le mari rentre, est reprise par Led Zeppelin avec la phrase « open my front door, hear my back door slam » (« j'ouvre la porte de devant, et j'entends claquer celle de derrière »).
