Le Short-telling est la technique de base du storytelling.[réf. nécessaire]

Le Short-telling se veut la traduction pratique du schéma narratif d'Aristote. Le Storytelling avait besoin d'un outil simple d'utilisation: les politiques, les publicitaires et les vendeurs ne sont pas des littéraires. Il fallait simplifier.

Le Short-telling limite à quatre phases le récit narratif. Il devient de fait plus simple mais également plus efficace.[réf. nécessaire] Les phases du Short-telling :

  1. Description du héros et de son environnement
  2. L'épreuve: le héros fait face à un drame, une question ou un problème
  3. Dans sa quête, le héros est aidé ou entravé.
  4. La mis en scène de la réussite : reconnaissance et résultats
