Severance est un film d'horreur anglo-allemand réalisé par Christopher Smith, sorti en 2006.

Synopsis

Sept commerciaux se rendent à un week-end de paint-ball organisé par leur entreprise pour renforcer leur esprit d'équipe. L'ambiance n'est pas la meilleure. Leur car s'arrête devant un arbre tombé en travers de la route. Le conducteur du car ne veut pas changer de route. Il vide leurs bagages. L'équipe termine le chemin à pied. Le gite réservé pour leur week-end n'est pas loin. Personne à l'accueil. Le plat que trouve l'un d'eux et qu'il sert à table pensant qu'il s'agissait d'un cadeau, se révèlent être de la chaire humaine. Ils réalisent très vite qu'ils sont la cible de soldats qui perpétuent des rituels d'horreur, pourchassant les égarés dans la forêt, torturant les uns, massacrant les autres. Dès lors, ils se battent pour leur survie.

Commentaire

Pour une bonne part, Severance puise son inspiration dans les codes du "survival", sous-genre horrifique initié en 1972 par Délivrance de John Boorman, à nouveau très en vogue dans les années 2000. Teinté d'un humour noir particulièrement corrosif, le film de Christopher Smith développe en outre une "violente" satire du monde de l'entreprise dans la directe lignée de celle proposée par Ricky Gervais et Stephen Merchant dans leur série anglaise à succès The Office (2001).

Essentiellement tourné en décors naturels en Hongrie, le film gagne une charge de menace supplémentaire en perdant son lot de personnages britanniques dans ce cadre de forêt dense typique de l'Europe centrale.
