En botanique, le scutellum est le nom donné à un cotylédon très élargi et en position latérale des plantes de la famille des Poaceae (Graminées).

En entomologie, le scutellum est une partie du thorax des insectes.
Situé à la jonction des élytres chez les coléoptères, et entre les points d'insertion des ailes le scutellum, de forme triangulaire est un élément utilisé pour l'identification de nombreuses espèces.
