La Scuba school international est une association internationale à caractère commercial promouvant l'enseignement de la plongée sous-marine.

La plupart de ses standards et spécialités sont assez similaires à ceux de la PADI et les deux organisations offrent sensiblement les mêmes formations.

L'une des différences notables entre les deux systèmes de formation est que SSI exige, pour certifier un moniteur qu'il soit affilié à un magasin de plongée (revendeur de matériel) alors qu'un moniteur PADI peut enseigner où bon lui semble, y compris en indépendant.

SSI est présente dans 90 pays et dispose de 25 « centres régionaux ». Ses supports de formation permettent d'aller du niveau de débutant jusqu'au monitorat en passant par de nombreuses qualifications de spécialités.

La SSI fait partie, comme d'autres organismes anglo-saxons (PADI, BSAC, DAN, etc.), du RSTC.

La SSI propose 11 niveaux de plongeur, du niveau 1 au niveau Pro. Pour atteindre chaque niveau, il faut, outre un certain nombre de plongées, certaines qualifications. Chaque niveau est concrétisé par une carte au format carte de crédit.

Niveaux de plongeur

  • niveau 1 (Open water diver) nécessite 5 plongées en milieu artificiel et 5 autres en milieu naturel ou alors 7 plongées en milieu naturel ainsi qu'un cours théorique. Il permet d'évoluer (en fonction de la législation du pays), jusqu'à 18 mètres de profondeur dans le cadre d'une autonomie relative.
  • niveau 2 (Speciality diver) 12 plongées et 2 cours de spécialités.
  • niveau 3 (Advanced open water) 24 plongées et 4 cours de spécialités.
  • niveau 4 (Master diver) 50 plongées et 4 cours de spécialités plus le cours "Stress et sauvetage du plongeur" (Stress and rescue).
  • niveau 5 (Century diver) 100 plongées.
  • niveau 6 : 200 plongées.
  • niveau 7 : 300 plongées.
  • niveau 8 : 400 plongées.
  • niveau 9 : (Gold 500 diver) 500 plongées.
  • niveau 10 : (Platinum 1000 Diver) 1000 plongées.
  • niveau PRO : (Platinum Pro 5000) 5000 plongées
