SABC 1 est le nom de la première chaîne de télévision nationale sud-africaine.
Succédant en 1996 à la chaîne de télévision TV1, elle émet principalement en anglais ; certaines émissions sont également diffusées en langues Nguni.
Le caractère généraliste de ce média se retrouve dans la diversité des émissions présentées à l'antenne. La majeure partie des programmes est composée de divertissements : la première chaîne reprend ainsi non seulement des productions issues du monde anglo-saxon mais produit également ses propres émissions. Parmi celles-ci, le feuilleton A place called home.
Les émissions musicales, telles « Imizwilili XII » , documentaires, telles « Ispani », ou encore religieuses, alternent avec des dessins animés ou des bulletins d'information.
Ceux-ci sont diffusés en anglais, mais également en Siswati, Ndebele ou Zoulou.
Le slogan de la chaîne est « Mzansi fo sho », signifiant « Sud-Africain bien sûr ».
(Mzansi est un terme argotique issu du mot xhosa « umzantsi » signifiant sud. Mzansi désigne ainsi l'Afrique du Sud, tandis que « Fo Sho » est une déformation argotique de l'anglais « For sure », signifiant bien sûr)
