Richard Hamilton (artiste)
Richard Hamilton est un peintre et graphiste anglais né à Londres le 24 février 1922.
Il suit des cours à la Royal Academy School puis il fréquente de 1948 à 1951 la Slade school of art de Londres. Après avoir pratiqué la peinture abstraite, il revient à l'art figuratif dans les années 1950. Il fait partie du independant groupe de l'Institut d'art contemporain de Londres, dont les expositions, en particulier this is tomorrow (1956) marquent la fondation du pop art britannique. Son œuvre Just What it is That Makes Today's home so Different, so Appealing? est l'une des premières de ce mouvement. Comme ses confrères américains, il stigmatise surtout les clichés du monde des mass media et de la consommation à outrance. Il a également imaginé avec Paul McCartney la pochette de l'album blanc.
