Un rentier est un individu qui vit de ses rentes.
Phénomène assez important en Occident au cours du XIXe siècle, le phénomène a quasiment disparu avec les vagues d’inflation liées aux guerres mondiales et à la Grande Dépression, et à l’augmentation des impôts, en particulier sur le revenu.
