Pyoderma gangrenosum est une maladie qui provoque la nécrose des tissus, ce qui provoque des ulcères profonds, généralement sur les jambes[1]. Quand les lésions surviennent, elles peuvent entraîner des plaies chroniques. Celles-ci ressemblent généralement à de petites piqûres d'insectes, et au fur et à mesure, à des ulcères.

Bien que ces blessures conduisent rarement à la mort, elles sont très douloureuses.

La maladie a été identifiée en 1930. Elle touche environ 1 personne sur 100 000. Même si elle peut affecter les personnes de tout âge, elle touche surtout les individus de quarante à soixante ans[1].
