Orville Richard Burrell

Shaggy (2006)

Shaggy, ou, Orville Richard Burrell de son vrai nom, est un chanteur de reggae né le 22 octobre 1968 à Kingston en Jamaïque. A appartenu au Corps des Marines des États Unis.

Découvert par son tube "Boombastic" (repris dans une publicité Levi's), Shaggy a ensuite redécouvert le succès en 2000 avec la sortie de son album Hot Shot et les titres It Wasn’t Me et Angel qui ont fait le tour du monde. Son nom viendrait de son dessin animé préféré Scoobidou dont son personnage est Sammy (Shaggy en version anglaise). Une autre interprétation plus connotée est possible, "to shag" signifiant "baiser" en argot américain.

Il reste actuellement, avec Bob Marley, Sean Paul, et Jimmy Cliff, l’un des seuls artistes Jamaïcains à avoir une telle reconnaissance internationale.
