Hip-hop orchestral
Le hip hop orchestral est une forme de hip hop alternatif dont la particularité réside dans l'intervention de musiciens instrumentistes. Ainsi, le hip hop orchestral se distingue du hip hop originel dont la base musicale est exclusivement produite au moyen d'un sampler ou d’autres techniques de MAO.
Aux, États-Unis, les principaux représentants de la branche acoustique du hip hop sont The Roots et Opus Akoben.
En France, les musiciens du groupe La relève ou Soon e MC ont été parmi les premiers à représenter cette tendance vers le milieu des années 90. Aujourd’hui le hip hop orchestral est mis au devant de la scène par des groupes tels que Hocus Pocus, Oxmo Puccino ou The Jazzbastard. Dans l’underground, la bannière du hip hop orchestral est portée par des formations telles que DIALOKOLECTIV ou La Cédille.
