Un Mobile Internet Device (littéralement « appareil Internet mobile »[1]) est un petit ordinateur portable, de taille intermédiaire entre le Smartphone et la tablette tactile, offrant un accès sans fil à Internet[2],[3],[4]. Ils sont conçu pour un public non-professionnel et principalement destinés au multimédia et à la navigation sur le web.
Intel a annoncé ce nouveau produit au salon Intel Developer Forum (IDF) d'août 2008, en tant qu'évolution des Ultra-Mobile PC[5].
Le système d'exploitation Moblin est destiné aux MID et aux Netbook.
