Michael Steinhardt (né en 1941), est un directeur d'un important fonds de pension, cité dans un livre de Jack Scwager, Market Wizards (1993).
Il s'est retiré plus tard des affaires et s'est consacré aux actions philanthropes. M. Steinhardt serait proche du président du conseil d'administration de la fondation Jewish Life Network. Le JLN se décrit comme consacré à renforcer l'identité juive parmi les juifs séculaires et non-orthodoxes en Amérique. M. Steinhardt (qui se décrit également comme athée), a écrit que le "judaisme est en danger de devenir désuet."
Le philanthrope new-yorkais a récemment acheté les deux îles situées les plus à l’ouest des Falkland pour en faire don à la Wildlife Conservation Society.
