La Metropolitan Transportation authority est une entreprise publique, chargée de la gestion des transports publics dans l'État de New York. Proposée par la législature de l'État de New York, la Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Authority (ou MCTA) fut formée en 1965. En 1967, la Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Authority devint la Metropolitan Transportation authority. Le directeur actuel est Eliot Sander, désigné après les recommandations de l'ex gouverneur, David Paterson.
La Metropolitan Transportation authority est notamment en charge de la New York City Transit Authority qui englobe tous les transports en commun de la ville de New York.
