Un May West est un petit gâteau circulaire, rempli de crème pâtissière, fabriqué au Canada par la firme Vachon, Inc., une division du groupe Saputo.
Histoire
Le gâteau fut inventé dans les années 1940 par René Brousseau, pâtissier chez Vaillancourt, une boulangerie de Québec, acquise par Vachon Inc. en 1972.[1],[2]
Le nom du gâteau, originalement identique à celui de la star de cinéma qui l'aurait inspiré, fut changé pour son épellation actuelle au courant des années 1980. Le gâteau était à l'origine fourré de crème anglaise, mais contient maintenant une garniture similaire à celle retrouvée dans le célèbre Twinkie américain.
