Flume
Un flume est un conduite d'eau artificielle, utilisée autrefois pour transporter, par flottaison, les bûches de bois du lieu d'abattage à la scierie à travers les abîmes et les pentes escarpées des montagnes.
Simples, rapides et économes, ces équipements ont facilité l'exploitation forestière en évitant la construction de dangereuses routes de montagnes pour les camions.
Ces canaux artificiels étaient souvent utilisés dans l'ouest des États-Unis à la fin du XIXe siècle. Ils se composaient de 2 planches de 60 cm de largeur, assemblées l'une à l'autre de façon perpendiculaire, formant alors une forme de "V".
Le plus long flume s'appelait le Kings River Flume. Il était situé dans la ville de Sanger, en Californie.

Le concept est aujourd'hui repris par les parcs d'attractions et autres fêtes foraines.
