Cheese est un petit être de la race des Chaos (prononcer Tchow). Il accompagne Cream, un petit lapin amie de Sonic. C'est un «animal virtuel», qui agit comme un Tamagotchi.

Les Chaos

Tout d'abord, les Chaos naissent dans un oeuf. Il y a plusieurs couleurs d'oeuf, qui reflètent chacun une caractéristique propre au Chao. Ils peuvent être gentils, méchants ou neutres. Les Chaos vivent dans un jardin, le «Chao Garden». Dans ce jardin, il y a notamment de l'eau pour faire nager le Chao, des fruits pour le nourrir, etc. Ils vont éventuellement pouvoir se reproduire avec un autre Chao, et ainsi donner naissance à un bébé Chao. Il peut aussi évoluer en Chao Chao, une forme avancée de Chao qui ne meurt pas.
