L. Subramaniam est un célèbre violoniste de musique carnatique (Inde du Sud).

Il est né le 23 juillet 1947, dans une famille de musiciens tamouls. Il donne son premier concert à l'âge de 6 ans.

Il étudie la musique et les percussions puis se destine au violon. En parallèle, il étudie la médecine (dont il est diplômé) mais abandonne pour se consacrer entièrement à la musique.

Il se maria avec Viji Subramanian, décédée le 9 février 1995, puis avec Kavita Krishnamoorthy en novembre 1999. Il est le frère du violoniste L. Shankar.
