Guō est la transcription en pinyin du sinogramme 郭. C'est l'un des noms de famille les plus communs en Chine et signifie « le mur qui entoure une ville ».

C'est le 18e nom de famille le plus commun en Chine. L'origine du nom remonte aussi loin que la Dynastie Xia, (voir Guo Zhi)
