Kubera est le dieu des richesses, "dhanapati" en sanscrit. Il règne sur les richesses souterraines de la Terre, tels les diamants, perles, or, argent, pierres précieuses et tout ce que la Terre fournit en termes de richesses. L'une des huit déités gardiennes des directions, dikpâla, Kubera gouverne le Nord - luxuriant et riche par opposition au Sud qui est le domaine de Yama, la mort, et du feu. Il est représenté comme un personnage replet, généralement assis sur des pots remplis de trésors. Parfois aussi, il prend la forme d'un éléphant blanc (cf photo).
