Une clé d'activation du produit est un code donné par une société éditrice de logiciels payants à ses clients pour leur permettre d'activer leur produit.
Volume License key
La Volume License key (VLK) est un terme utilisé lorsqu'on installe un logiciel, et qui permet à une même clé de produit d'être utilisée pour de multiple installations.
Multiple Activation Key
Avec la sortie de Windows Vista, le VLK sera remplacé par des clés d'activation multiple (Multiple Activation Keys ou MAK) qui soit activent les copies via un serveur de gestion de clés (Key Management Server ou KMS) local, qui se charge de faire le rapport de l'usage des licences auprès de Microsoft, ou soit activent directement les copies en communication directe avec Microsoft.
