John H. Shumate (né le 6 avril 1952 à Greenville, Caroline du Sud) est un ancien joueur américain de basket-ball.
Intérieur de 2m06 issu de l'université de Notre Dame, Shumate joua cinq saisons (1975-1978; 1979-1981) en NBA sous les couleurs des Phoenix Suns, des Buffalo Braves, des Detroit Pistons, des Houston Rockets, des San Antonio Spurs et des Seattle SuperSonics. Il fut nommé dans la NBA All-Rookie Team avec une moyenne de 11.3 points et 5.6 rebonds par match. À l'issue de sa carrière, Shumate cumulait 12.3 points et 7.5 rebonds[1].
Shumate entraînera par la suite l'université Southern Methodist, puis les Phoenix Mercury en WNBA. Il est aussi apparu dans une série de videos d'entraînement de basket-ball[2].
