John Bramhall

John Bramhall (15941663), théologien anglican, évêque de Derry, né à Pontrefact (Yorkshire)

Il fut obligé sous la domination d'Olivier Cromwell de s'expatrier à cause de son attachement pour les Stuarts, revint en Angleterre parès la Restauration, et fut nommé par Charles II d'Angleterre en 1661, archevêque d'Armagh, primat et métropolitain d'Irlande.

Ses ouvrages, destinés presque tous à défendre la Réformation contre le Catholicisme ont été rassemblés avec sa Vie à Dublin en 1677, in-folio.

Le plus important est une controverses avec Thomas Hobbes sur la liberté qui fut publiée à Londres en 1656.
