Un hatamoto (旗本, hatamoto?), dans le Japon féodal, est un garde officiel d'un daimyō ou d'un shogun. Caractérisés par l'utilisation du nodachi, ils étaient souvent utilisés comme une force d'élite et en renfort rapide.
Pendant la période Edo, les hatamoto étaient des samouraïs qui étaient des vassaux directs du shogun, et avaient pour tâche de se mobiliser sur ordre du shogun. Contrairement aux daimyō, ils n'avaient pas d'obligation de sankin-kōtai, et possédaient un domaine de moins de 10 000 koku. Leurs domaines étaient groupés autour d'Edo. Ils étaient à la fois craints et respectés par les autres samouraïs pour leur allégeance directe au shogun, mais celle-ci impliquait aussi qu'ils avaient un niveau plus élevé à maintenir.
