Le 369e régiment d'infanterie, dont les soldats étaient surnommés les Harlem Hellfighters, auparavant appelé 15e régiment de la Garde nationale de New York, est une unité militaire américaine connue comme le régiment le plus connus de Noirs pendant la Première Guerre mondiale[1]. Un surnom alternatif était The Black Rattlers (les « Serpents à sonnette noirs ») suite à leur insigne.
Ces soldats noirs étaient moins bien entraînés, habillés et nourris que leur homologue blancs[1]. La vision d'une Europe sans ségrégation joua un rôle sur la volonté d'engager une réflexion sur les droits civiques des Afro-Américains[1].
L'orchestre du régiment, sous la direction de James Reese Europe, participera à introduire le jazz en Europe[1].
