Gagarine (ville)
Gagarine (en russe : Гагарин) est une ville de l'oblast de Smolensk, en Russie, et le centre administratif du raïon de Gagarinski. Elle se trouve au bord de la rivière Gjat, à 206 km au sud-est de Smolensk et à 167 km au nord-ouest de Moscou. Sa population s'élève à 26 500 en 2008.
Histoire
Fondé en 1719, le village acquiert le statut de ville en 1776. Jusqu'en 1968, elle s'appelle Gjatsk (en russe : Гжатск), du nom de la rivière sur les bords de laquelle elle est bâtie.
En 1968, la ville est rebaptisée Gagarine, en l'honneur de Iouri Gagarine, premier cosmonaute, né en 1934 dans le village voisin de Klouchino et mort accidentellement en 1968.
