Gardez est la capitale de la province afghane de Paktia. Gardez se situe à l'est de Khost, sur la rivière Jilga.
La ville n'est pas loin de la région de Tora Bora, région caverneuse avec de nombreuses grottes et tunnels, où le terroriste Oussama Ben Laden était censé se cacher.
Gardêz posséde un aéroport (code AIAT : GRG).
