Un garage désigne généralement un bel espace aménagé dans une maison destinée à ranger les automobiles ou un bâtiment spécialement conçu pour cet usage, c'est-à-dire un parc de stationnement. Le mot « garage », lorsqu'il sort du cadre domestique, désigne généralement un atelier de réparation automobile, lieu de travail du garagiste.
Au sein d'un parc de stationnement, on appelle box un emplacement individuel entièrement fermé. Comme beaucoup d'autres mots ayant trait à l'automobile, ce terme provient du vocabulaire équestre et désigne originellement le bâtiment fermé abritant les chevaux.
