Ailill Mac Máta
Ailill Mac Máta est un roi d'Irlande dans la mythologie celtique. Il est l'époux de la reine Medb.
Le nom d'Aillil signifie « le fantôme ». Cet être timoré se trouve opposé à son épouse au caractère fort, la reine Medb, qui voudrait assurer seule le pouvoir. Une nuit, les deux époux se querellent à propos de leurs possessions réciproques. Mais l'égalité la plus stricte existe entre eux. Medb a l'idée de se faire prêter, par un voisin et pour un an, un taureau. Elle envoie un émissaire chargé de cadeaux et de la promesse qu'elle lui accordera ses faveurs. Mais l'entremise tourne mal car l'envoyé s'enivre. Medb veut alors avoir le taureau par la force, et malgré les conseils de son époux, elle entreprend une guerre des plus meurtrières, contre son voisin. C'est le départ du thème de la grande épopée irlandaise.

Aillil est réputé être le fils de Rossa Ruadh mac Ferghus Feirghe roi de Laigin de son union avec la reine Medb serait né un fils Maine Aithreamhail mac Oilioll qui sera également roi de Connacht après sa mère.
