Drunk Barbarians est un groupe de trash-metal formé en 1998 à Leipzig par Lothar Warbrau & Karlheinz Reineger. Ils sont rejoints par Udo Karlsten, Andreas Schnaizer (drums) et Karl Hommer (bass).
La première formation s’appelle Barbarians et évolue entre Kreator, Sodom et Slayer. Le groupe fait la première partie de Invasion Of Dead. Lothar et Karlheinz remarquent leur batteur Olaf Warbanecker. Ce dernier les rejoint à la fin de la tournée et leur propose de rajouter Drunk au patronyme. En 1999, Drunk Barbarians enregistre une première démo du nom de Metal Barbarians. Ils l’envoient au label Annihilation Records qui leur propose de faire la 1re partie Holokast durant leur tournée européenne. A la fin de l’année, Karl Hommer quitte le groupe et est remplacé par Felix Bronberg (ex- Invasion of dead). Après plusieurs concerts sous cette formation, le groupe enregistre sa 2ème démo Guerilla en 2000. Enfin, Annihilation Records leur propose un bon deal. D’abord une tournée avec Berlin's Destroyer puis un album pour l’année 2001. La tournée faite, le groupe commence les sessions mais Felix Bronberg décide de partir. Tout est repoussé. A Hambourg, Karlheinz rencontre 2 jeunes prodiges du nom de Hans et Jurgen Struscher. Il propose à Hans de rejoindre le groupe à Leipzig. Hans accepte à condition que son frère soit intégré. Chose faite la semaine qui suit. Udo Karlsten quitte le groupe en même temps qu’Olaf Warbanecker. Le groupe revisite leur répertoire et compose de nouveaux morceaux en compagnie des frères Struscher. Le groupe peut enfin enregistrer son 1er album chez Annihilation Records.
