Une page satellite est une page web destinée à améliorer la place d'un site donné sur les moteurs de recherche en proposant de nombreux liens vers le site en question, associées à des combinaisons de mots clés conçues pour obtenir un score élevé lorsqu'elles sont évaluées par les algorithmes des moteurs. Le visiteur qui atterrit sur une telle page se verra le plus souvent redirigé automatiquement.
Réactions
L'utilisation de pages satellites est généralement perçue par les sociétés responsable de moteurs de recherche comme du référencement abusif. Lorsque ce genre de pratique est détectée, la réaction va souvent d'un réajustement du classement du site concerné à son exclusion pure et simple de la base de données du moteur.
Utilisations célèbres
En 2005, le site web allemand de la marque BMW a été banni de la base de données du moteur Google pour l'utilisation de ce procédé.
