Darley Arabian est un étalon pur sang arabe qui fait partie des trois étalons à l'origine de la race des Pur-sang anglais, les chevaux de course actuels.
L'histoire
Darley Arabian fut acheté en 1704 à Alep (Syrie) par Thomas Darley, un noble dont la famille cherchait à acquérir un cheval de course. L'étalon bai brun aurait été échangé contre un fusil dont son propriétaire avait très envie. Nommé à l'origine Mannika, le cheval fut rebaptisé afin de porter le nom de ses nouveaux propriétaires.
Il obtint de nombreux succès en course en Angleterre et fut l'arrière-arrière-grand-père d'un autre grand étalon : Eclipse (1764). Ce dernier resta invaincu sur les hippodromes.
