Chen Sheng est général et subordonné de Liu Biao. Lorsque Sun Jian traverse le Long Fleuve pour attaquer Liu Biao, Chen Sheng, assisté de Zhang Hui et de leur commandant Huang Zu, vient s’opposer aux forces de Sun Jian. Il tente de venir en aide à Zhang Hui lorsque ce dernier perd l’avantage dans son duel contre Han Dang, mais est tué, atteint au visage d’une flèche tirée par Sun Ce.
