Hakham Bachi
Hakham Bachi حكم باشا est le titre porté dans l'Empire ottoman puis en Turquie par le chef religieux des communautés juives. Ce titre est formé de l'hébreu חכם hakham (sage) et du turc باشا baş (tête).
Il y avait dans l'Empire ottoman un Hakham Bachi basé à Constantinople dont l'autorité s'étendait sur tout l'Empire et pour chaque communauté importante un Hakham Bachi. Ainsi les communautés d'Égypte et d'Irak avaient leur propre Hakham Bachi. Ceci à l'exception notable de la puissante Salonique où la direction générale était confiée à un groupe de rabbins choisis par les multiples communautés. Cependant là-bas aussi cette institution fut mise en place à la toute fin du XIXe siècle.
