Le Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) basé à Washington, D.C. est un cercle de réflexion et d'influence sur la politique étrangère américaine fondé en 1964 par l'amiral Arleigh Burke et l'histoiren David Manker Abshire, orignellement dans l'enceinte de l'Université de Georgetown.
Le centre conduit des études politiques et des analyses stratégiques sur de nombreux sujets en relation avec la politique, l'économie, la sécurité, la finance, la technologie et l'énergie.
Le centre fut originellement crée avec l'objectif d'encourager un lien fort entre Européens et américains face à l'URSS et une approche réaliste des relations internationales[1]. Il compte dans son conseil d'administration Zbigniew Brzezinski, Henry Kissinger, James Woolsey[1] et l'ex-ambassadeur Joseph Farland (jusqu'à son décès en 2007). Le centre est à l'origine de la déclaration commune pour une renouvellement du partenariat transatlantique faite le 14 mai 2003, au plus fort de la guerre américaine contre l'Irak[1].
