Ushahidi

Ushahidi ("témoin" en Swahili) est un site internet créé après la crise au Kenya en 2007 suite à l'élection présidentielle, pour collecter les témoignages de violence envoyés par email et SMS, et le placer sur une Google Map[1]. C'est aussi le nom du logiciel open source développé pour ce site, qui a été amélioré depuis, rendu convivial, et utilisé pour nombre de projets similaires.

Ushahidi utilise le concept de crowdsourcing au service de la cartographie sociale, combinaison d'activisme social, de journaliste citoyen et d'information géographique. Ushahidi fournit un mécanisme à un observateur local pour soumettre un rapport via son téléphone mobile ou internet, générant une archive temporelle et géospatiale de l'évènement.

Composants

Ushahidi utilise SwiftRiver, une plateforme libre et open source qui aide à extraire un sens d'une masse d'informations dans un laps de temps très court. SwiftRiver est né du besoin de comprendre et d'agir devant l'afflux de données en temps de crise, véritable ras de marée d'information collecté durant les 24 premières heures d'une crise.

Concrètement, SwiftRiver permet, en temps réel, de filtrer et vérifier des données provenant de canaux tels que Twitter, SMS, Email et RSS. Ce logiciel libre est particulièrement utile pour les organisations qui ont besoin de trier leurs données par fiabilité, non par popularité. Ces organisations incluent les média, les organisations de secours et d'urgence, les journalistes et autres institutions.
