Le Scottish Book (« Livre écossais ») était un épais cahier utilisé par les membres de l'école mathématique de Lwów pour noter des problèmes et des solutions. Ce cahier était nommé en l'honneur du Księga Szkocka (« Café écossais ») où il se trouvait sous la garde du propriétaire.
Des mathématiciens avaient pris l'habitude de se rencontrer au café et de noter directement sur les tables des problèmes et des équations. Ces écrits étaient effacés à la fin de chaque journée, faisant ainsi perdre ces informations. C'est Stefan Banach ou sa femme qui eut l'idée d'acheter un épais cahier et de le laisser en permanence au café sous la garde du propriétaire[1],[2].
