Alocasia macrorrhizos
Le Songe caraïbe, l’Alocasie, l’Alocasie à grandes racines, l’Alocasie à grosse racine, le taro géant ou l’oreille d'éléphant (Alocasia macrorrhizos (L.) G. Don), est une plante originaire de l'Asie du Sud-Est.
Nom usuel
Le nom Alocasia macrorrhiza est synonyme et plus fréquent mais Alocasia macrorrhizos est à privilégier (source : www.plantnames.unimelb.edu).
À la Réunion, où on la retrouve, on l'appelle « songe papangue ».
En Polynésie française, où elle est connue sous ses noms tahitien 'ape ou paumotu kape, sa racine était autrefois utilisée pour l'alimentation. Elle est encore consommée aujourd'hui sous forme de po'e[1].
