Maurice Ashley (né le 6 mars 1966 à Saint Andrew, Jamaïque) est depuis 1999 grand maître international du jeu d'échecs. Le premier, il est aussi à ce jour le seul afro-américain à porter ce titre. Il est coté 2465 au classement Elo 2006 de la Fédération internationale des échecs (FIDE), 2520 au classement USCF dans la catégorie « standard », et 2536 dans la catégorie « rapide ». En 2005, il a écrit le livre La diagonale du succès (titre original Chess for Success) dans lequel il raconte son expérience et parle de l'intérêt éducatif du jeu d'échecs. Il recommande en particulier l'utilisation des échecs dans le but de remotiver des enfants en difficulté scolaire ou vivant dans des quartiers sensibles. Dans cet esprit, il a fondé une école d'échecs à Harlem, le Harlem Chess Center.
