Mary Tourtel

Mary Tourtel (28 janvier 1874, Canterbury – 15 mars 1948, Canterbury) était une auteure anglaise de littérature jeunesse, créatrice de la série de romans Rupert.

Mary Tourtel, née Caldwell grandit dans une famille d'artistes. Elle étudia l'art sous la direction de Thomas Sidney Cooper au Sidney Cooper School of Art de Canterbury et devient illustratice de livres pour enfants. Elle se marie ensuite avec Herbert Tourtel, du Daily Express.

Elle créa le personnage de dans les années 1920 pour concurrencer le Daily Mail et son Teddy Tail.

Mary Tourtel cessa son activité en 1935, et son personnage fut repris par Alfred Bestall. Elle mourut en 1948.
