Madam C.J. Walker (23 décembre 1867- 25 mai 1919), née Sarah Breedlove, est une femme d'affaire afro-américaine qui fit fortune grâce à sa société, la Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, spécialisée dans les produits cosmétiques et capillaires. En tant que femme afro-américaine, elle fait figure à double titre de pionnière dans le secteur de la grande industrie américaine, qui était à son époque sous le contrôle quasi-exclusif des Blancs de sexe masculin[1].

Elle s'impliqua, en parallèle de son activité commerciale, dans la défense des droits des femmes et des Afro-Américains. Elle participa notamment au financement de plusieurs associations comme la National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) dont elle finança à hauteur de 5 000 dollars une campagne contre le lynchage et fut élue en 1918 vice-présidente de la National Equal Rights League, fondée par William Monroe Trotter.
