James McCarthy est un footballeur irlandais de naissance écossaise, né le 12 novembre 1990 à Glasgow en Écosse. Il évolue actuellement en Premier League au Wigan Athletic au poste de milieu de terrain.
Il a été formé dans le club écossais de l'Hamilton Academical FC. Il a rejoint Wigan à l'été 2009.
Carrière
International
Né en Écosse de parents irlandais, mais c'est avec l’Irlande qu'il choisit de jouer : d'abord international espoir irlandais et ensuite avec l'équipe national irlandaise. Il joue son premier match en première sélection obtenue le Brésil en 2010. Après son premier match en compétition officielle, le 26 mars 2011, lors de Irlande 2-1 Macédonie à Dublin (en remplacement de Robbie Keane à la 87e minute), il ne peut désormais plus représenter l'Écosse.
