Les Instamatic est une gamme de film photographique créée en 1963. Il s'agit d'un film 35 mm à perforations spéciales monté en cassette plastique destinée à protéger le film et à en faciliter le chargement. Le presse-film est incorporé au chargeur, ainsi que le compteur de vues, accessible par une fenêtre au dos de l'appareil.
Les vues sont d'un format carré de 28 mm de côté.
À la fin du rouleau, il n'y a pas besoin de rembobiner : le chargeur est envoyé tel quel au laboratoire.
Les appareils utilisant ce format étaient très simples (gamme Instamatic chez Kodak) : généralement sans réglage de la mise au point ni réglage de l'ouverture, ajustement simpliste de l'exposition par modification du temps de pose. Il y en eut environ 10 millions en circulation. Il y eut cependant quatre appareils reflex à objectifs interchangeables, le Contaflex 126, le Ricohflex, le Rollei SL 26, et le Retina reflex instamatic : ce dernier avait l'avantage de pouvoir utiliser tous les objectifs des Retina reflex 24x36.
