Frenchville est à l'origine un écart de la commune de Covington dans le comté de Clearfield en Pennsylvanie.
Elle a été nommée ainsi parce que les premiers colons qui s'y sont installés étaient français. Ils provenaient en majorité de Haute-Marne et de Haute-Saône et s'y sont installés vers 1830.
